PeopleTIME 2005 February 10th - March 31st CLICK IMAGE TO VIEW ENTIRE SHOW PeopleTIME 2005 features an installation of paintings by Tim Bowen. PeopleTIME 2005 is a large scale project consisting of 100 paintings depicting various significant national and international events that occurred throughout the year 2005. The title is based on the idea of using two images per week, one from People magazine and one from Time magazine, focusing on relevant news items which juxtapose the superficial trivialities of popular culture with the serious, often grim, geopolitical and social realities of the day. Arranged in chronological order and somewhat evocative of a documentary film, covering everything from Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah's couch, the Michael Jackson child molestation trial and the misadventures of the Runaway Bride to the devastation and horrors of Hurricane Katrina, the Iraq war and the genocide in Darfur, PeopleTIME 2005 can also be viewed as a contemporary take on narrative history painting. Installed in a manner which recalls the fresco cycles of Giotto and Piero della Francesca, PeopleTIME 2005 occupies the entire gallery and celebrates the amazing diversity and seemingly infinite detail found in the myriad aspects of human experience while asking the viewer to reevaluate the priorities which shape the way we perceive and respond to the world around us. read Andrea Kirsh's review on artblog Details from PeopleTIME 2005 (each painting 30" x 72") |
